Arunachal to find place in world

ITANAGAR, Feb 13: In two to three years, we will put Arunachal Pradesh in the world tourism map, said State Governor Gen JJ Singh, while receiving the interim report of the survey carried out at Gekar Sinyi, a natural lake near Itanagar from Lt. Manoj Gawli, leader of the diving and survey team of Eastern Naval Command, Vishakhapatnam at Raj Bhavan on yesterday.
With the concerted effort of the State Government and all the stakeholders, we are leaving no stone unturned to discover many more hidden tourism potentials of the State. There are many more places, caves and water bodies, which are attached to myths, legends and beliefs. The survey of Gekar Sinyi is part of the endeavour in this direction, he added.
This survey will be precedence for such activities in Arunachal Pradesh, as we have many more pristine lakes spread all over the state. It will not only help us to know the details of those untouched water bodies, but it will also help in tourism promotion, Gen Singh said.
Accepting the report and going through the suggestions, Governor said that he will be taking up those suggestions with concerned people very soon. He was pleased to learn about the potential of the lake for water sports and other activities, such as water skiing and angling.

Appreciating the proficiency of the naval expert team, Gen Singh suggested for training on water craftsmanship for Special force of State Police. With so many big rivers in the state and looking at the safety and security of the local people, we must have a team of personnel expert in diving and rescue operations. I am sure Indian Navy will come forward for the capacity building, he added.
Lt. Gawli, while giving the detail report informed that the deepest point in the middle is 9.6 meters and there are huge deposit of trees.
A 3D map of the entire lake is being prepared. He added, it is very good for water sports such as water skiing and huge potential to be one of the best tourist attractions.
Lt Gawli, presented a memento of his Command to the Governor, who reciprocal with traditional Nyishi dao and Apatani shawl for every member of the team. Armed with the scientifically prepared map of the Lake, the Governor made a tour of the whole Lake today. He also took a boat ride around the lake.
Pointing at the abundant fishes in the lake, Gen Singh advocating for angling activities said, it should be done professionally, with prescribed norms and State Government must get revenue out of it.

ITANAGAR, Feb 13: As whole state mourns the loss of innocent lives in the Palin fire incident, it is time to make deep introspection about status of education system in Arunachal Pradesh. These kids lost lives in the hope of better education as their parents thought living in boarding they will be brought up in competitive atmosphere. The castle of dream weaved by those children has been ruined in the very same place where they had assembled together for better future.
This incident should be treated as wake up call for the government of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly education department.
In the last few years private schools have been mushrooming all over the state and it is not known whether all of them are recognized with government. This is the root cause of problem as most of these schools do not adhere to standard regulations framed by central board of secondary education. Nobody cares to check including administrations and parents whether these private hostels have proper fire dousing equipments or whether they maintain hygiene? Most of the children studying in these schools are virtually living under mercy of god and if authorities do not act at right time unfortunate incident like that of Palin might recur.
The lure of private schools in Arunachal is so high that relevance of government school in our society is slowly diminishing. With broken windows and half damaged walls majority of state run schools have become shadow of their past. The sharp difference in the performance of students between government and private run institutions in various competitive exams tells that all is not well with state run schools. Once these school were home to many bright students, whereas today, parents avoid them and make every effort to get their children admitted in private schools. Most of the parents blame government for the present sorry state of affair of Govt. schools.
“Standard of government school has drastically gone down in the last few decades. Even with our tight budget, I am sending my children to private school as there at least they will get proper education and care,” told a parent. He went on to add, “Palin incident has scared me a lot. My two children are in boarding school and now I am desperately worried for their safety. I would request state government to bring some kind of mechanism so that these private hostels follow all safety norms.”
Most of the government run schools are plagued with numerous problems like shortage of subject teachers, classrooms, laboratory technicians, textbooks etc. Even appointments made under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) have not brought desired changes. Unless proper education policy is implemented, more children will be driven away from government schools.
As our state comes under earthquake prone zone, there is an urgent need to identify whether school buildings of the state both private and government are secured enough to resist any deadly tremor. Time has come to streamline education policy and in this regard, education department must take the lead role.
The recent decision for the planned development and improvement in the standard of the educational institutions will go a long way in solving some of the major and urgent problems that the education system has been confronting.
In the meanwhile, we all have to make sure that memories of those kids who lost their lives in the Palin fire remain etched in our mind and heart as their deaths have taught us many haunting lessons.
MLA announces development package for Joram
ZIRO, Feb 13: In yet another major announcement, the Yachuli MLA and APEDA, Chairman, Likha Saaya, yesterday announced developmental packages to the tune of over Rs.60 lakh for Joram area. He made this announcement while chairing a development meeting of three Panchayat segments of Phu Joram, Shuli Joram and Jara at Joram under Lower Subansiri district.
Giving priority to agriculture, he would sanction 20 lakh of the package for construction of an Irrigation channel from Sekh Nallah to Shuli and ten lakh has been earmarked for construction of a link road from BRTF road to Phu Joram Primary school, while the remaining 30 lakhs is for immediate requirements of schools including class rooms and teachers quarter of the three panchayat segments of Phu Joram, Shuli Joram and Jara.

ITANAGAR, Feb 13: The 19 Mahar, the youngest battalion of the Mahar Regiment stationed near the border in Upper Siang district, celebrated 25 years of its raising recently under the aegis of DAH Division.
Speaking to the unit on the occasion, Maj Gen B S Sachar, SM, VSM, GOC Dah Division complimented the troops for their high state of morale in the remote border town. He exhorted the personnel to continue with the good work in the future also. He also received the Trekking Expedition undertaken by the unit to Shingang, one of the most remote villages of the state.
A get together was also organized by the unit in which Goan Buras and other locals participated.
The traditional dance of Adi and Memba, Khamba communities was complimented with a ‘Leizim’ dance by the troops.
It may be mentioned here that battalion was raised in Saugor, Madhya Pradesh on Feb 11, 1985 by the first commanding officer, Col Pradeep Kala with troops belonging to all parts of the country. The battalion is a true ‘Mini India’, having amongst its ranks persons from the length and breadth of the country, from J&K to Andaman & Nicobar, from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh, all serving the nation with unity.
In a short span of 25 years the unit has won numerous awards including one Veer Chakra, one Yudh Seva Medal, seven Sena Medals, six Mention in Dispatches and 32 commendation cards. The unit was also awarded the General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command’s Unit Appreciation card for their sterling performance in OP VIJAY.

SEPPA, Feb 13: Seppa East MLA Tapuk Taku has underscored the importance of healthy mind and body and said that the mantra for successful career lies in these faculties along with unwavering discipline.
Taku shared this piece of wisdom to a large gathering of students and teachers while inaugurating the annual events of Seppa JNV, recently.
“The mantra for successful career lies in a healthy mind and body along with unwavering discipline. These faculties can take you (students) to the pinnacle of success in your chosen field”, Taku said.
He lauded the efforts of JNV, a pioneer educational institution of the district, through which many of its alumni have become an able and efficient officers in various department.
Expressing delight over the march past performance and cultural programme presented on the occasion by the students of JNV, the Seppa MLA donated an amount of Rs 15000 for students’ welfare.

Adherence to PMEGP guidelines sought
ITANAGAR, Feb 13: Palin Mandal unit president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dohu Apa claimed that the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), a centrally sponsored scheme is not being implemented in state as per guidelines.
Giving a copy of the beneficiaries under the PMGEP with amount against specific projects which ranges from Rs 70,000 to 10 lakh, Apa in a release claimed that when there is a provision of sanction ranging from Rs five lakh to 25 lakh, some beneficiaries were getting bank loan up to Rs 10 lakh and some others are getting loans ranging from Rs 70,000 to 85,000 against specific projects to run business in industry and service sector. This, the release claimed, was against the guidelines of the PMEGP framed by the government of India.
